We are Hilary Akehurst and Barry Denton, both long time pet owners who love our pets as if they were people. Jointly, we have been owned by 9 cats, 4 dogs, numerous pet birds, several guinea pigs, goldfish, a pet rat and several pet mice. At present we live with 2 dogs, 2 cats, 7 cockatiels, 6 budgerigars, 4 canaries and 5 quail.
Hilary’s background: Originally I trained as a Secondary School teacher, later for many years in Intermediate schools. A sideways leap into retail led eventually to becoming a Book Shop Manager, then Book Buyer for a large Bookshop Chain. I joined Barry's Exhibition Design & Manufacturing Company as Administration Manager and worked there for seven years. I've ALWAYS lived with a multitude of pets (cats & birds since childhood, later fell in love with dogs, then expanded into the menagerie that seemed to come as a "Case Lot" with one's children - of mice, guinea pigs, a terrapin, more birds & fish). An SPCA Member and recent Zoo volunteer.
Barry’s background: Exhibition Stand Designer & Manufacturer. Established an Exhibition & Portable Display Company 1980, which was sold in 2005.
I've ALWAYS lived with and adored dogs but have also owned a broad range of pets including hedgehogs, tortoises, rabbits, rats and newts. (Grew up in England) Over the years, from necessity, my skills with & knowledge about dogs and older pets have increased.
After the sale of our company two years ago we finally had the chance to structure a new business that could offer the care our pets needed during those times when we couldn’t be there.
So Pet Time was born.
Our aim is to provide “Peace of Mind, In-Home Pet and House Care”.
We are mature, responsible people, with initiative and good judgement, happy to follow your instructions to help promote the health, happiness and safety of your pets and your home when you can’t be there. Because we DON’T believe that “One size fits all” we’ll work with you to provide the right services for your needs.
